The  DIPP converts the analog image information from the CCD into digital signals, and transfers the digital data to main memory.  When the scanner is in line art or halftone mode, the output from the DIPP is 1 bit per pixel.  When it’s in grayscale mode, the output is 4 bits per pixel.
